- Three Commentaries on Leviticus
Fri, 15 Jan 2010 08:49:39 -0600
I just compared two commentaries on Leviticus on my Participatory Bible Study blog. In addition, I’d like to link to my older review of Jacob Milgrom’s three volume commentary on the same book. From that review: The only possible adjective for this commentary is “incredible.” It is not just long (2,468 pages of text), [...] - Review ? The Second Confession
Wed, 11 Nov 2009 11:10:45 -0600
In this mystery, Nero Wolfe finds himself under attack through one of his dearest things–his orchids. He also finds himself working outside his home, another unusual situation for him. Since much of the action takes place outside of New York City, we don’t have staples such as Detective Cramer, but we do hear about [...] - Review ? Storm from the Shadows
Wed, 11 Nov 2009 11:04:44 -0600
Storm from the Shadows is a sequel to The Shadow of Saganami, and as such advances the general history in the Honorverse only a little bit beyond the end of At All Costs. I had read some reviews that said that this book ended on a cliffhanger, but I had generally dismissed those. David Weber [...]

- Google Buzz with Wordpress
Fri, 19 Feb 2010 09:12:38 -0600
If you’re using Google Buzz (link is to my profile – I’m trying it) and want to integrate it with your Wordpress blog, Mashable has some options. I haven’t implemented any of these, but it does look like integration is getting pretty good in a hurry. I also haven’t decided just what I think of Google [...] - If You Need Another Warning
Thu, 18 Feb 2010 12:07:48 -0600
… consider yourself warned. I have encountered several machines recently on which people were either running without anti-virus protection or had allowed the anti-virus subscription to lapse, sometimes for long periods of time. I know it’s tempting to avoid that little expense, but the protection is critical. You also need to let those scans run, or [...] - Using Google Buzz?
Thu, 11 Feb 2010 08:54:20 -0600
Then you might want to read this article on MSNBC. I was setting up my Buzz account today and found quite a number of things that I thought would concern some people. As a somewhat public figure, I expose more of my information to the public than many people would be comfortable with. Spammers can find [...]

Wed, 31 Dec 1969 07:00:00 -0600
First, apparently Blogrolling has been having troubles for some time so that rolls cannot be updated. They expect to have this fixed soon. I didn't notice because I was so far behind in updating the roll. Second, I have just updated the roll with submissions going all the way back to ... - 4 Posts on Tithing

Finally! After nearly two months, another "four posts" post. I hope to be more regular as I'm using my Google Reader more effectively. What are these 4 Posts entries? As many days of the week as I have time I look through the RSS feed for the Moderate Christian Blogroll/Aggregator and ... - Word Nerd?

18Others are like the seed that fell among the thorns. They are the ones who hear the word 19and the worries of this life and the deception of riches, and the desire for other stuff comes in and chokes the word so it becomes fruitless. 16Now other are like the seed that fell in rocky ground. Whenever they hear the word, they receive it immediately and joyfully, 17but they don’t have root in themselves, but they are temporary {have short attention spans!}. If trials or persecution come up because of the word, they get tripped up right away. Mark 4:16-17 [...] - Fruit-Producing Christianity

3Listen! A farmer went out to plant seeds. 4And as he was spreading the seed, some fell beside the path, and the birds came and ate it. 5Other seed fell in rocky ground, where it didn’t have much dirt, and it sprouted leaves quickly, because the dirt wasn’t deep. 6But when the sun rose, it [...]

- REB Module for e-Sword
Tue, 09 Mar 2010 08:43:59 -0600
I previously reviewed e-Sword and found it a pleasant surprise in the free Bible software category. Note that my review was written in 2006, within a few days of my starting this blog, and a great deal has happened since then. Hopefully I will manage to write an updated review soon.
But there is more exciting [...]

An Eye for an Eye Church Sign
At first glance, this is a good sign for a Christian. After all, Jesus replaces “an eye for an eye” with “Do not resist the one who is evil” (Matthew 5:38-39).
But I think it illustrates the way we fail to understand certain phrases as they were intended.
“An eye [...]

- Quote of the Day

From the Wesley Report:
Mainline Protestant Christianity has become known for leaving people in slavery, because somewhere along the way, our strategy changed from leading people out of Egypt to planting churches along the Nile. And that’s why mainline denominations continue to lose members. People don’t need churches to help them stay in slavery– they can [...]
- How About Planting a Church?

That’s what Allan Bevere suggests as the ordination process, based on his experience in Cuba.
I find the idea attractive, at least for certain types of ministry. There might be other ways to test various gifts. It does relate to a problem I’ve noted amongst United Methodist ministers, many of whom come out of [...]

Ex-UMC, now megachurch pastor Craig Groeschel offers six suggestions for the United Methodist Church, packaged in six brief blog posts. I think that there is much worth considering in his suggestions, though I don’t think they are generally all that new.
There’s something that bothers me in the whole discussion, however. In practically every [...]
